This is out of Quebec…where criminals have the presumption of innocence, while your home security cameras catch them on video, stealing your shit…and you should just “call 911”.
If you did call 911, in Calgary and most likely any other major city, you are directed to call a Non-Emergency phone number for the RCMP or city police, because these aren’t deemed as actual emergencies.
And when you do…a day or two later, maybe more, somebody will come to your home, dressed in uniform and take a statement that you can give to your insurance company where they will tell you that whatever was stolen, probably wasn’t worth putting in a claim for and even if you did, it would drive up your premiums.
Most criminals, these days, have already caught on to the fact that as long as you aren’t injuring or killing somebody, even if there is camera footage of your crime, absolutely fucking nothing is going to happen to them.
Even if they do get picked up…they’ll be back on the streets within hours and you’ll never get your stolen shit back.
TBH, having a camera is the same as having a lock on your door…it doesn’t stop criminals…it only keeps honest people honest.
Maybe if you catch your neighbors kid in your backyard mucking about, show their parents the footage…you may see some justice…but that’s not coming from the people who are paid by your tax dollars to protect your property…it’s probably not even coming at the end of a wooden spoon, like it would have in just a recent couple of generations ago.
It’ll be an apology from the parent(s)…maybe you get some of your stuff back, maybe you’ll get reimbursed for damages…most likely, you’ll have to settle for a solemn “we won’t let it happen again”, promise.

Foodbanks being hammered harder than Notley’s liver on a Friday Night…or Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning….whatever…
Cost of living increases…
Mortgage failures on inflated interest rates…
City Tax increases (not that any of this is spent protecting you or your property)…
Hiked up tax on the air you breathe
Jacked tax on the beverages you drink to drown your misery from all of the above…
None of this is going to get better, it will progressively get worse.
And soon criminals, will not only have privileges equal to what you already have…they’ll be protected, while clear evidence shows them breaking the laws, from your being able to share these warnings in your community.
This is coming across Trudeau’s Canada…to a neighborhood near you…
