You should probably sit down for this…
Not that I’m assuming you’re walking around or out on a jog reading substack…but, maybe brace yourself for this impact.
As it turns out, maybe letting people walk around doing drugs in public spaces, is a terrible idea.
This program was supposed to be a 3 year pilot…but has come to a sharpish close.
In case you aren’t up to speed on this…the idea behind it was to allow people to carry small amounts of illicit and otherwise illegal narcotics in an effort to fight…wait for it…
An Overdose Crisis.
Wha, whut?
And…to extend this, people were allowed to use these in public places…and while I know we’ve all seen the videos or stories on people lighting up their crack pipes on public transportation, since this insanity all broke out…it took an actual trial run to see if this program would succeed.
Add to this…BC Health has also allowed people to use these same substances in Hospital Situations, where you’d probably have your skull cracked open for lighting a dart…
And while I can’t find any mention as to what may happen with “Safe Supply”, that is leaving BC in Large Volumes and spanning the country - from coast to coast to coast - as I feel obligated to say…I hope they solve the mystery as to what may be causing this, as well.
Just thought I’d throw you a little happiness on a Friday…and especially after forcing Nenshi and Hoffman on you last night.
Happy Friday!
I have worked in Healthcare in four different hospitals on this island and a couple of care homes; in a variety of roles. I have worked with some very experienced Addiction Counsellors, Mental Health personnel, and a variety of acute care hospital staff across departments. I also have known personally a few hardcore addicts that swore they would do me harm if I ever touched the stuff. Never in a million years, would I have thought our ever present government would sanction such a trial.
It has been a ludicrous and predictable failure here in BC; especially here on Vancouver Island from tip to bottom, but especially in Nanaimo and Victoria as I have witnessed personally. It's a minefield of used drug paraphanalia around, which is cleaned up often by community group as well as theft, break-ins and other destruction. The damage done to local businesses, physically and financially abounds with no efforts on the part of law enforcement, due to the catch and release process now! There is really no change is sight, unless and until a new government is instilled. I have attended both visits from PP to Nanaimo. Now I am sporting an Axe the Tax sign in my front window! Thus, due to a FB rant I had on a specific group, I was invited by a local PC rep to the Cow Valley rally to which I went. Very well attended indeed! Reps from Courtney to Victoria were there as well as J Rustad. A good question/answer period.....I stay in hope of the VOTE!! It can't come soon enuf over here.
Did you see Eby’s new nickname? Eby Escobar 😆 The voting intention polls have the Conservative Party of BC leading now hence the sudden about face for the BC NDP. BC is finally waking up 🙌 it will be interesting to see if they admit full failure on the other failed program of “safer” supply diversion. #MakeBCNDPFree
