My husband and I are -- or should I say were -- nurses working for BC health authorities in the lower mainland. My husband was an emergency psychiatric nurse and I did specialty oncology and home care. When we were threatened with the mandates we thought, heck no, they won't mandate a gene therapy that has failed for the past 40 years!! As an HIV and oncology nurse, I have watched mRNA fail over and over and over again. At the best, clinical trial animals lived to 3 years human life equivalency. Our union defeated the flu vaccine mandate, and we thought, they surely will stand by our side.
The president of the BCNU was fired... ahem, stepped down in September 2021. And then the health authorities did what we didn't think possible. October 25th we were put on leave and fired.
Since this time, we had hundreds of colleagues fired as well. Good nurses. Experienced. Leaders and preceptors for their units. It also includes the leader and 28-year experienced nurse of the solid organ transplant unit at VGH who did all the critical care and training of new staff. Needless to say..... things have fallen apart. Bad. We are told of colleagues sick with COVID regularly, and a host of other issues. Friends who vaxd 3 or 4 times to keep their jobs report palpitations, strange headaches, fainting, neuropathies, and young nurses have had heart attacks and strokes. 2 nurses have died mysteriously and suddenly. The emerg psychiatry units my husband worked at closed during shifts or entirely downsized or have been eliminated. BC oncology care is in shambles to the point where managers are having to hang chemo and patients are going weeks to months without getting treatment. The entire BC healthcare system has been crushed.
We have been told by insiders that BC lost, through firings and forced early retirements and vac-related disabilities, as many as 8000 nursing registrations in 2022. That is almost 25% of the nursing workforce.
I guess it is worth it, though, because here we are immune and healthy while our colleagues are sick and disabled and working short every shift. But hey, at least they won't get covid from us dirty unvaxed!
Final note, we gave up on Canada and went back to the US. We might not have jobs there either because of the CMS mandates, but at least we know that 50% of the population is going to fight for freedom. Canada. Shame.

It is the whole Canada, very many people too sick to work for now, and soon to get even sicker. Hospitals, airlines and ferries are simply canaries in the coal mine, because their workers are more exposed, but soon everyone will be totally exposed due to massive infection and reinfection levels.
I call this "Chronic Covid"... Infection everywhere... All sorts of variants... etc
Heck, it is not just Canada... It is my country too... ouch.

And an added dimension to this is how the courts refuse to hold the government accountable because of 'reasonable limits'. They're basically saying the Charter is a suggestion in times of an 'emergency'. They're letting UNELECTED civil servants usurp CIVIL RIGHTS and no one seems to be bothered or care. You have judges literally saying (like in Ontario) the evidence doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is how the judge views it. We had TWO Chief Justices show their bias and disregard for the right to protest and freedom of speech.
In effect, they've said the government is being 'reasonable'. Except, balanced off against the evidence they're wholly unreasonable. Criminally so I submit.
It's not just the conservatives. It should be EVERY SINGLE MP questioning the motives of the government and for once get off their lazy, cowardly asses and actually challenge the narrative. Until now, they've been hiding behind 'public health emergency'. This can't go on.
It's plain for all to see. Canada is careening out of control and about to get shipwrecked.

I have a feeling things will get worse by the fall. Given that boosters are still being pushed at just about every level of the population; which means more will probably take, and the fact there are so many sick now. Wait until school starts up again in the fall. How many teachers are going to be absent with sickness? And that's just one sector of the population. As this becomes more and more apparent to the masses how are the powers that be going to do damage control? I think they will double down on all the previous draconian measures we have endured for 30 months.
If you shut most venue's down, except for the essential ones, then a staffing shortage won't be a problem. We won't need any. No one is going to care if Joe Blow is at home lying on his couch because he's sick again if he doesn't need to be at work. It's not newsworthy and will draw very little media attention.
As an aside, while camping on Vancouver Island right now, I overheard a conversation between two women while we were languishing in a swimming pool. This is a high popular tourist area with a variety of restaurants within 3 close towns. The woman said they tried to go out for dinner at the closest town and both restaurants they went to were closed due to having no food to serve. The next closest town had a restaurant that was open and when they got inside it was packed. Their server came over and begged them not to leave and promised they would get served. She said she was the only one working that night on the floor. So this restaurant had food and little to no staff. We're not only going to have supply chain issues with food but with people. Welcome to the winter of our discontent, once again.
I find the food shortage excuse for the first two restaurants rather sketchy. Am wondering if it's a staffing issue and they were reluctant to admit it.

Pre Dec. 2020, before the rushed-to-market-experimental-vax was released into the wild, before the manipulated by fear mass innoculation in April 2021, and then forced and coerced upon the rest in August 2021, I had never knew of anyone who tested positive or fell ill.
Now, in August 2022, after the high uptake of those (still) experimental shots, I am separated by only 1 to 2 degrees by those who are getting sick, are testing positive, suffered seizures or have suddenly died. Sadly, the mindset is to get a third or fourth shot.
Recently, the city of Toronto proudly announced that 2/3 of those 18+ (1.6M) have received a 3rd shot. 377K have fallen off the edge and spun the wheel on a 4th shot in a city of nearly 3M total population. This upcoming cold and flu season will be ... interesting.
