At the after-event in Calgary, following Tucker Carlson last week, I met up with UCP MLA Eric Bouchard. Great guy, had a chance to sit and chat with him about a few things and we connected on Twitter/X.
I’d like to be more involved on a lot more of what’s happening in our province and in our country so having the opportunity to meet up with Eric and even Ward 13, City Councillor - Dan McLean (out at the same pub), was awesome.
There are a few other networks/individuals I was looped into, throughout my 2 day Tucker Extravaganza, that I’ll be discussing as we progress…but some very big and interesting things to hopefully come and keep you all involved with.
Anyways…
Hot topic of Conversation for us Albertans, and should be for the rest of Canadians is the Canada Pension Plan and what this looks like vs an Alberta Pension Plan.
When we met with MLA Shane Getson, he ran us through some numbers on this, where it looks like us Albertan may have an opportunity to pay less and still maintain the same level of coverage…and at the most expensive time to live in Canada in the history of Canada (things about to get worse in April with quadrupling of the Carbon Tax), any savings that we can appreciate is more than welcome.
And for other Canadians, outside of the province, our independence on this could be important for what this could mean to you.
So…
To find out a little more about this, if you live in Calgary or happen to be visiting, you can get the UCP focused take on this, next Tuesday at Canyon Meadow Cinema:
Because…if the Liberals don’t want us to do this…and the NDP are running more fear and smear campaigns, with $200k coming from just the Nurses Union alone:
It may be worth your time to check it out.
Full disclosure…while I am a staunch conservative…I’m not actually a member of the UCP or CPC parties, YET…I make ZERO money from promoting any of their events and even if I pass these along, may not necessarily mean that I’ll be attending.
In addition to these, while I will support messaging from city councillors, MLAs and MPs…that doesn’t mean that I fully endorse any of them. That’s not my bag.
For me…this is really about holding myself accountable for the mess we’re in. For altogether too long, I’ve not been active in paying much mind to politics or the goings on in Canada and now that I see what’s happened without me, makes me realize that the only way to help us out of this mess is to be informed and try and share the information with as many people as possible.
Just thought I’d forward the event along, with updates and will keep you all posted on what else is coming.
And there are some really big things coming.
The problem with those opposed to the Alberta Pension Plan is the fear of change. CPP is all that Canadians have ever known, most have probably never even looked at what our money is invested in - if they did, they would not be very happy. The CPP is and will continue to be an under performing investment. An APP will not affect me, was forced into early retirement 'cause I refused to be a lab rat, but I've looked at the preliminary numbers and it's a better plan for Albertans. Plus, it's a necessary step for Alberta Sovereignty!
I've been putting a lot of energy into learning about the AbPP and have now cohosted a 5 hour course led by Tanner and Hunter Hniday. I look forward to meeting other presenters and hearing more!
This is one of the most important things Alberta can do! It is not only a great fiscal idea but we must affirm some autonomy from the federal government also.
Something that isn't spoken of enough is that not only can Albertans pay lower premiums to get the same or better benefits, but EMPLOYERS also will be able to pay less of THEIR part of the premiums! Businesses are under such tremendous pressure here that this is a significant advantage.
I could go on...there is a reason the Hniday course was so long. 😉
