Can a Mayor actually be recalled, you ask?
The answer is Yes…but this is a very large battle and I’ll break it all out for you.
First off…you can find information on Alberta Bill 52 - Recall Act →Link
Or the shorter version →Link
Holding elected officials accountable
The Recall Act (Bill 52) gives Albertans a way to remove elected officials they feel are not upholding their responsibilities.
Or…a quick read PDF Version →Link, which states:
Municipal Officials If an Albertan feels an elected official is not upholding their responsibilities, they can notify the Chief Administrative Officer in their municipality of their intent to start a recall petition. If they are eligible to vote in the election for the official and meet the other requirements in the legislation, the Chief Administrative Officer would publish a notice of the petition on the municipality’s website, and the petitioner would then have 60 days from the date the petition is published on the website to gather signatures from eligible voters that represent 40 per cent of the population of the municipality or ward. If the petition is successful, at the next municipal council meeting, the Chief Administrative Officer would make a declaration of the successful recall petition, and the official would be removed.
And…
We’re already taking steps to get this ball rolling…but we are definitely going to face some challenges…
First off…
The long and the short of this is, we need to get 40% of eligible voters to sign a petition…and in the case of the mayor, that is 40% of the population of Calgary…what makes this more difficult is that we only have 60 days to get 40% of eligible voters to sign the petition to kick Gondek to the Curb!
Now…over the last few years, a lot of us have been members of groups, publications and have turned out to events or offered some funding support in the COVID Battle ground…and in order to make this happen, we’re going to need ALL HANDS ON DECK, if we want to see this happen.
But…this can be done and needs to be done.
We need to start sending messages to our elected officials that we are tired of their woke bullshit and we are tired of election meddling…and doing this for the country, where the election for the PM is decided before a single vote from Western Canada is even counted…is stretch.
A lot of us are behind Premier Smith in the ‘Alberta Sovereignty Within a United Canada Act’, because we are tired of a minority liberal government, propped up by the NDP to tell us how to run our province.
Alberta has 32 MPs…2 are Liberal…2 are NDP…28 are Conservative.
Meaning that we do not holistically support Liberal nor NDP Policies in our province…not even ‘kinda’.
And given that both NDP and Liberals have financial backing from the union and foreign countries…they still can’t win on the federal front…however…throughout our municipalities, we are seeing an uptick in MLAs and City Councilors upticking with union financial support, which will eventually start to sway our federal representation.
And if/when this happens, we’re all fucked!
(Sorry, I tried to keep these posts clear from profanity, but there is no nice way to say this).
Here’s where we have a bit of an issue and why we are going to need ALL HANDS ON DECK…
As of 2023…there are 839,185 Eligible Voters in Calgary → Link
40% of this is 335,674 people needed on the petition, in 60 days to punt Gondek!
In the election she won…there were…
A total of 390,383 votes cast for the ENTIRE ELECTION, meaning we need to have 86% of the total voter turn-out, sign the petition…or, almost 2x the amount of people to sign the petition against Gondek as the number of people she had vote FOR her to win.
But here’s the thing…
If we can get this initiated by the end of March, that gives us 2 months before the next Provincial Election.
Where unions will continue pouring money in to support the NDP for the bigger win…
They’re not going to sway the public against this petition in support of Gondek…she’ll be cast aside and left to fend for herself.
In addition to this, we will be sending a very clear message to the NDP candidates in Calgary that we’re sick and tired of the Unions picking our politicians and that our community representation should be that of the constituents…not of the taxpayer funded government positions.
We don’t want the government employees to fund the candidates who will give them a bigger paycheck and afford them less duties…
We need to say ‘NO’ to the unions.
We need to say ‘NO’ to our elections being bought.
We need to tell Gondek that we no longer require her services.
We need to send a message to Calgarians…to Albertans…and to all of our fellow Canadians…we’re sick of this shit, and we’re not going to take it anymore!
Taxation without representation is THEFT.
And if we can do this in Calgary…we can start to take back our country!
We’ve got a tough row to hoe…Are you in?
Whether you are in Calgary or not…we’ll need the full reach of everybody to make this happen because think of an impact like this on a global scale. Think back to what the Truckers Accomplished in the Freedom Convoy and how countries united around us…think of countries that were inspired by Canadians…and whether you are here with us or not, somebody in your social media feeds might be.
Share this message far and wide as you can.
This will be the victory that sets the world on fire in taking back democracy!
If you haven’t already read the reasons why and about our elections being bought, please read the following:
Pertinent message Sheldon. I think she had help from the tabulators (IMHO) as well as the union, and like you note, she wasn't the only one. My ward 3 councilor (Mian) is her right hand person. Bottom line; big effort required here. We should game plan an approach. i.e. socialize heavily within our social media reach and before submitting the request, etc.. to go in having a sense of doable. Also like the other discussion we had..a concise message needs to be developed. A 3 part substack wont cut it... (and I'm not suggesting that is what you are saying)
I’m very interested in recalling Gondek! 👍🏻
