Those who have been kind enough to support me through a paid subscription have afforded me the benefit of paying for a Pro-Zoom account…an investment I’ve made through sponsorship into building our community.
&
Those of us who were able to make it to the Zoom Call on short notice on Friday, appreciated this benefit with a 3 hour gab session…until I was completely exhausted…perhaps a little too Notley’d to continue…hey…it was Friday, wife was out of town and Spiced Rum was on the menu.
I’d already put in my full week…I make no apologies for needing to crash early…we went on for 3 hours.
In any case, this is a tool that has been afforded to me that I am going to extend to our community and it definitely has it’s benefits. It would seem, like me, a lot of you aren’t arsed with watching TV and would prefer to spend this time visiting with like-minded others - and I fully support this.
Given the frigid Canadian Temps…this would allow you to continue on these conversations from your sofa and in the comfort of your own home.
In past, I’ve had my own mIRC and JavaChat forums, where I’ve participated as time affords and allowed moderators to continue on in my absence and it seems a shame to waste my Zoom account as a dormant and unused platform.
So…my proposal…
Open it up for some meaningful conversation for a couple days per week and tap in a moderator to help assist in the event that I can’t be there. The moderation in our chats would just be specific to allow users to screen share and keep out the riff raff, as required…not that I believe that we have a community plagued with said ‘riff raff’, but you have to appreciate that having done this before, I know full well that there is the potential for some infiltration of unsavory type characters.
Now…I’m going to do this anyways…
So, this really isn’t a vote on if we should or shouldn’t do this…it’s more so to see the days of the week that would gain the most amount benefit through our mutual available schedules. I make no promises to be there for any of the meets, but do plan to have this tended to by a member of our community…
My proposal is this:
Tuesdays and Thursdays?
Who would you nominate as a moderator? (Nominate yourself - I’m fine with that)
Important to note…that a nominee must accept the responsibility for the duration of the call and appreciate the commitment from an East to West Coast timetable…thinking from 6pm EST to 8pm MST, giving around a 4 hour time window for commitment.
Zoom is fairly easy to use, but does require a bit of tech savvy to use and share…I’ll set up the meets on the days we select and this will be broadcast through my YakkStack updates, send out the links for the days selected…and we host and run the show as a community.
I’m not going to set agendas…
I may or may not be there…
I will 100% be relying on YOU as the community to report back to me on how these work out and on the selected moderators to keep this in check - self-policing.
None of these will be recorded…to keep our personal anonymity in account and in all honesty, I really don’t even much care about the topic of conversation…however…if you are a selected moderator and have an agenda, I’ll include that in the invite so that you can try to ensure the like minded are in attendance.
Yeah…there’s some logistics to work out here…
Busy as a week as I have ahead of me…I’ll get that sorted.
But for now…I want you to do me favor.
Like the post if you think this is a good idea - comment if you think it sucks, with reasons why…
Nominate somebody (comments) - even yourself - as a potential moderator.
Select a topic of conversation that you’d like to see.
Pick the days of week, if are other than Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I’ll compile the info and get this party started - first meet for Tuesday, December 6th, 2022 - no matter how the comments and support plays out. This is important…and I can’t be the only one making the decisions here.
I like the idea of connecting with like-minded people and I look forward to connecting when possible AND to read about the insights or inspirations you write about in your substack.
