“At the end of the day, you can count your money or you can count your principles”.
A fella that was coaching me through a transaction that went sideways offered me this piece of advice. I didn’t heed the warning strongly enough and while my principles remained intact, my bank account was noticeably set back - I was not the victor of this story.
Whether you’ve decided to get vaccinated or not, you have done so for a select reason and those reasons are now in question. If you’ve been vaccinated, the government will allow you certain liberties and freedoms that are not theirs to take away, to begin with. If you haven’t, the government has now deemed you a classification of person that is no longer allowed the freedoms afforded in the Canadian Bill of Rights. As of today, in Alberta, this information will now be extorted from you - as in, if you cannot by way of the threat of restricted freedoms and service, comply or produce information of complicity, you’ve lost your rights. Maybe your job; Maybe your house; Maybe your life savings; Maybe just the ability to go to a Flames Game or concert in the new Roger’s Place Arena that the city is building/has built with your tax dollars. Whatever…
For the last month/several months, we’ve all known this day was approaching but were maybe a little skeptical as to what Canada would do with this because this is a decision that goes against our basic freedoms and it wouldn’t happen in Canada, or specifically - Conservative ALBERTA, right?
Welp, we’re here and have you thought through what this actually means?
Somebody now has information that will guide them in their decisions on whether to employ you or continue to serve your needs.
[/Dream sequence]
Close to 100 years ago (in my mind) during a job interview, the interviewer asked me if I had a family. Wondering why, I asked why it would be important. The prospective employer explained to me that they feel that people with families have commitments to keep up with and typically make for more reliable staff.
Years later, when working with an employer to hire an office staff member, he rejected a perfectly qualified candidate based on the fact that she was young and was wanting to start a family.
We’ve all heard the stories.
[/end Dream sequence]
Today, if you have your vaccinations and can prove it, you get to keep your job….TODAY.
If you miss your next jab - will your employer need to fire you then?
If you have long term disabilities from your jab, will your employer be able to terminate your employment because you are no longer able?
What if by next year, the “New and Improved Jabs”, which weren’t extensively tested enough doesn’t provide enough information on adverse reactions and you are uncomfortable with getting it?
What if because one of those permanent disabilities happens to a couple that wants to start a family and is no longer able? No longer suitable to an employer who has strong family values?
Increased stress, changes in weight and exercise, and other major lifestyle changes can affect menstrual cycles — and all of those changes are common during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, studies have shown that some women who had COVID-19 experienced changes in the duration and flow of their menstrual cycles.
But menstrual cycle changes may not be limited to those who get COVID-19. Recently, some people have reported changes in their menstruation after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, including changes in duration, flow, and accompanying symptoms such as pain.
How many studies are able to show natural birthing cycles, 1 year after the vaccination?
NONE
ZERO
NADA
We haven’t seen a full year of lab rats to evaluate.
So now, employers who may look at you for possibly being more committed will now see you as being less desirable because you’ve disclosed the fact that you have been vaccinated, so may not be having a family. Ever.
BUT
Others who don’t want you leaving and going on Maternity/Paternity leave, will.
So, there is that, right?
Well, what if your employer also asked and gauged you by your physical appearance if you are on the high risk of dying from COVID in a way that your doctor asks for your medical history?
Do you or does anybody in your family suffer from:
BMI>40?
Hypertension?
Cardio-Vascular Diseases?
Renal Diseases?
Diabetes?
Dementia?
Respiratory Diseases?
Cancer?
Stroke?
Liver Disease?
Immuno-Deficiency Diseases?
Are you still comfortable in providing this information?
These are stupid conversations that you don’t think will happen to YOU, but you’ve probably seen and heard stories about some form of discrimination before that you would have never thought about either.
So.
Are you completely fucked now?
Not really.
Just because somebody asks you, “Have you been vaccinated”, doesn’t actually mean that you have to answer that question, or any other medical question for that matter. Those that ‘Need’ to know have your medical information should already or be able to access this and if for some reason they are not able, it is your right to decide what you provide.
Alberta - Personal Information and Protection Act
Division 2
Consent
Consent required
7(1) Except where this Act provides otherwise, an organization shall not, with respect to personal information about an individual,
(a) collect that information unless the individual consents to the collection of that information,
(b) collect that information from a source other than the individual unless the individual consents to the collection of that information from the other source,
(c) use that information unless the individual consents to the use of that information, or
(d) disclose that information unless the individual consents to the disclosure of that information.
(2) An organization shall not, as a condition of supplying a product or service, require an individual to consent to the collection, use or disclosure of personal information about an individual beyond what is necessary to provide the product or service.
Plays out a little like this:
Scenario 1:
You: I’d like a table for 2.
Waiter: Can I see your vaccination passport?
You: I do not consent. I was here last week and it wasn’t required as a condition of your service.
Scenario 2:
Your employer: We need to see proof of vaccination as a condition of your employment.
You: I was here [yesterday, Friday, last week] and this was not required. In the agreed conditions of my employment this was not stated as a requirement.
Somebody else, along with you who is providing employment or a service to you, is now going to have to make a decision and though it may seem like the right thing now, what do you suspect will happen when you remove rights and freedoms for 25-30% of the population of your province/state/country?
What happens when they still refuse to get the jab or divulge this information?
Think about it for a second.
1/4 to 1/3 of the population will be discriminated against with no repercussions?
Scale of 1:10 - Possible:Probable?
Along with PIPA - Personal Information and Protection Act, we also have something called the Canadian Bill of Rights that clearly states:
Recognition and declaration of rights and freedoms
1It is hereby recognized and declared that in Canada there have existed and shall continue to exist without discrimination by reason of race, national origin, colour, religion or sex, the following human rights and fundamental freedoms, namely,
(a)the right of the individual to life, liberty, security of the person and enjoyment of property, and the right not to be deprived thereof except by due process of law;
(b)the right of the individual to equality before the law and the protection of the law;
(c)freedom of religion;
(d)freedom of speech;
(e)freedom of assembly and association; and
(f) freedom of the press
Doesn’t specifically mention vaccinations though, does it?
Welp, here we have something called the “Rights of Persons with disabilities”.
You don’t actually have to disclose a Medical Disability, others have to actually make provisions for you.
You can view the entire 64 page document here: Rights of Persons with disabilities.
Is not being vaccinated a disability? You ask…and great question if you did.
Yes. It is.
You have to consent before you take the vaccination shots and if you have read through the consent information, you may not be able to take a shot.
Do you have to disclose any of the above mentioned conditions to seek a hot meal, an overpriced concert/movie/sporting event or a job?
NO!
You do not.
In Canada, we have an entity that protects you from this sort of extortion, they are called the Canadian Human Rights Commission:
You see, depending on your age, race, sex…you may have a condition that excludes you from even being vaccinated. If it weren’t for that, you aren’t under any obligation to disclose that you may or may not have one or any medical condition.
I refuse to disclose any details of my medical history.
Think about that statement for a second.
Are you ready for it?
Where does it really go to from here?
