How the Red Cross says they can only use Plasma Donations from the Unvaccinated to Treat COVID-19 Patients
Minced Words
You’ve may have heard the rumors that the Red Cross wants unvaccinated blood…you may have even tried to find information on this at the Red Cross Website: Link, and if you did…you wouldn’t have found it.
If you called them, they would not admit it.
But fortunately, Red Cross has a stellar Twitter Team that feels obligated to reply when they are mentioned in favorable or unfavorable terms, like Wendy’s…but for Blood instead of square patty hamburgers.
Anyways, I tripped across this the other day and looped back to it today. It was a bit of a Tweet Storm and I wanted to see other replies trickle in.
The initiating Tweet:
I have seen similar Tweets, where somebody offhandedly got word from their phlebotomist that this was the case but this one piqued my interests because the American Red Cross replied, in a series of 3 tweets. First one being:
They start off by calling Jennifer a liar and then following up with, Plasma donations that meet FDA criteria for convalescent plasma may be used to treat COVID patients. AND, if they would have left off here, I wouldn’t bother even bringing it up. But they didn’t, so neither am I.
They followed this Tweet with:
FDA guidance allows donations from the vaccinated to be processed but they aren’t actually doing it because of software issues?
Not sure…but it seems like they aren’t using any…3rd and final Tweet:
Whatever changes and updates they need to make will take some time to implement and they just need more time to do this but are really committed to getting this done.
Conclusion:
@JenniferSey was Dead-on-Balls.
There is something up with Vaccinated Blood that makes it different from Unvaccinated blood and cannot be used currently for people who are immunocompromised that have COVID and require convalescent plasma as a life saving measure.
Again:
Vaccinated Blood is currently WORTHLESS for use in COVID Patients.
You might be thinking that with case rates down that death rates are also down…it’s probably not that big of deal. Nobody is thinking this…but if you did, according to the NYT tracker there were an average of 386 Deaths Per Day from COVID as of April 20, 2022 and cases are starting to make an upswing.
386 people per day are dying, on average - which is technically down…but also 386 people dying per day. From COVID.
And though Convalescent Plasma is only one of the COVID treatments, Red Cross admits to doing this very thing - using Convalescent Plasma and that they are “committed to building a readily available supply of convalescent plasma to ensure patients with COVID-19 have treatment options available”.
400 people dying per day and they don’t want to do an upgrade to their system?
There is a lot going on here and while I don’t know how effective convalescent plasma is as a treatment nor how often it is being used, I would imagine that people who need treatment options would be more than happy to try this instead of the alternate of dying from COVID or say trying out a 10 day protocol of Remdesivir.
The Red Cross is only using unvaccinated blood for convalescent plasma to treat COVID-19 patients and I find this troubling. We don’t know what other restrictions are being put on Blood from the Vaccinated and of course there is always a need for More Blood but this seems like a pretty big deal.
Thoughts?
Anybody see anything else on this?
Thanks for bringing this up. Despite the outright denial, there were several tacit concessions that there is a "preference" for unvaccinated blood. A few of us, "purebloods" were talking about this issue more than six months ago, and that number has grown. When the need for blood becomes greater, and the pressure rises, it will become inevitable that the Red Cross and others will have to admit the obvious.
Thanks, Sheldon. Shared :)
