Let’s face it…there hasn’t been one single thing that the Liberals have done that hasn’t caused an increase on the costs of living…but now that they want to regulate groceries, it’s going to go even higher and you’ll have a harder time finding some items.
How long has it taken them to finish the pipeline they bought and how much did they drive up the price on just that alone?
And these assholes who do nothing to earn the GST (Gouge and Screw Tax), for 5% are up in arms over grocery stores making 3%…
And then PST…and then Carbon Tax…Liquor Tax…Gas Tax…Tobacco Tax…Income tax…
If you’ve ever owned a business, the one thing you need to appreciate is that 3% net on product is hardly worth getting up in the morning for…you wouldn’t do it…you couldn’t afford to.
The fact that grocery stores need to stock thousands of items and employ thousands of workers while needing to still pay overhead can do this for a 3% margin, in my opinion, is actually commendable.
When it comes down to it…prices are driven by consumers to begin with and with competition widely available, the market, for the most part, regulates itself.
Elderly will shop at COOPs (where they exist, because they cater to this crowd).
Communities with IGA, Sobeys and Safeway…are more of convenience stores for groceries.
And while they do have their lost leaders that you may walk in for…you can bet that your bill will be a lot higher than if you went to a Loblaws or Superstore.
The idea that the NDP and Liberals went after Superstore to begin with is a perfect demonstration of how out of touch these clowns are with market prices.
I’m not here to defend Superstore or Galen Weston, especially after the bread price fixing fiasco a few years back…I’m here to defend my pocket book and after having switched to Superstore decades ago, I can attest to the fact that some of the best deals you can find is here…on just about everything.
Have groceries gone up in price over the last few years?
Absolutely!
When $250 used to fill the truck, you barely fill a few reusable bags these days…but this isn’t because of huge mark ups…3% is 3% no matter how much an item costs.
And while their 3% earnings are averaged out…some items make even less…more luxurious items make a little more…this is the average.
Ex. A can of soup for 99 cents, the grocery store makes 3 cents.
The average that they take after watching meat go bad in the cases…
Fruits and Vegetables get beaten and eaten out of their displays…
Rampant and blatant theft…
Not forgetting about the people who take advantage of self-checkouts to skim a few more bucks off of their grocery bills.
Let the libs in and this isn’t going to get better.
This idea has never worked and that’s why no government with half a brain tries to implement or regulate free market on groceries.
They don’t have to…but of course they will and they’ll fuck it up…and things will be more expensive and harder to get.
