Forwarding to our Governor General because we cannot tolerate any influence being used in matters such as Invoking the Emergency Measures Act.
Dear Honorable Governor General, Mary Simon;
I am deeply concerned with what I’ve just witnessed by way of parliamentary influence in Vote No. 32, 44th Parliament, 1st Session on February 21, 2022.
https://www.ourcommons.ca/members/en/votes/44/1/32
MOTION TEXT
That, pursuant to section 58 of the Emergencies Act, this House confirm the declaration of a public order emergency proclaimed on February 14, 2022.
As I am sure you are aware, this is a fairly monumental decision based on greatly increasing the Governing Powers of the Minority Government, that I feel may have been unfairly weighted based on outside determining factors.
Whether this be intentional or not, I don’t believe that the House of Commons of Canada can afford the slightest appearance of impropriety at this current time.
As an example to this, I would respectfully request you view the following footage as provided by CPAC: https://www.cpac.ca/episode?id=7aae4e29-1936-45a2-9a68-c7b092cbf9e5
Specific to 1:08:03, question provided by MP Elizabeth May, and answered by Minister of Justice David Lametti.
MP Elizabeth May: If the declaration is tied to these regulations, that they cannot be used other for than this specific emergency as described in the declaration?
Minister of Justice David Lametti: The way in which the regulations or order are based, as well as in the way they are written, clearly indicate that they flow from the declaration.
While I can appreciate that if extreme measures were to be employed, we should require their specificity on inception. What I am afraid of is the possible influence to other MPs and the invitation of lawlessness that restricting these measures may create.
In this, I feel it may suggest the appearance of swaying a supportive vote on extending these measures by, MP Elizabeth May.
From just 4 years ago as per wikipedia:
On March 23, 2018, May was arrested for civil contempt during a demonstration against the Kinder Morgan pipeline.
On May 28, 2018, May pleaded guilty to criminal contempt of court and was sentenced to pay a fine of $1,500. May has called for a doubling of Canada's greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to a 60% reduction from 2005 levels, instead of the current 30%.
Over this last week, millions of dollars of damage was done to heavy equipment and trailers in Kitimat, British Columbia.
RCMP Chief Superintendent Warren Brown thought he had seen it all from protestors and activists during his time overseeing the north district of the province of British Columbia, but Thursday’s attack on a Coastal GasLink pipeline site was something different.
I am in no way trying to suggest that MP Elizabeth May was connected to the actions taken over this last week nor supportive of their members. However, during a time when she is not seemingly concerned with the activities in her own province, where millions of dollars of damage were created and is instead more concerned with Emergency Measures on the opposite side of the country, may absolutely appear to be the influencing of a decision for reasons outside of declaration, given the specifics of MP May’s platform.
Noting that All Violent Protesting during this time should be met with equal measures. If other groups are otherwise encouraged in lawless behavior, by not being included on extreme measures, this could lead to further damage in Canada’s resources causing further strains on our economy.
Addition to this and what seems most egregious is in the moment before the voting took place, Honorable Member from Barry, Innisfil - John Brassard requested Clarification on whether the Liberal Minority Government was going to use tonight vote as a Non-Confidence Vote as was signaled by the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and will the PM plunge us into an election to House Leader - Mark Holland. Rather than answer the question, Mr. Holland pushed to vote prior to offering clarity.
Each Member of Parliament had to decide to support the use of the Emergency Act or to possibly bring back a decision of an additional $600 Million Dollar election to their constituency during a time of a great cost of living increase brought on by inflation.
While either of these did actually impact in swaying decisions made this evening on the voting, they absolutely did have the potential to do this very thing.
One last thing I will mention about this is, the threat of terrorism by way of occupation is being cited to support the use of the Emergency Act, where by section 83.01 of the Criminal Code[1] defines Terrorism as an act committed in whole or part for an ideological purpose with the intention of intimidating the public or compelling a government to do or refrain from doing any act.
The Appearance of Compelling a decision of a Members of Parliament on voting to Invoke Emergency Measures by the government against Canadian Citizens deemed as Terrorists by said government, seems a lot ironic.
Given how all parties can agree that the Convoy has vacated Ottawa and that there is no immediate threat, I respectfully request that the Emergency Act be removed until a proper resolution can be recommended and a true representation of the people of Canada can take part in this decision.
Please note that I have also included my MP - Len Webber, Premier of Alberta - Jason Kenney, Official Opposition Party Leader - Candice Bergen and Aspiring Prime Minister Pierre Poilievre in this email as I would like to see how the Conservative Party intends to keep faith in our House of Commons with their suggestions on resolve.
Sincerely,
Well said Sheldon. I fear we are going down a dark path that may take generations to recover from, if we do. What’s happening in Canada right now makes me sick to my stomach. And the media is backing this bullshit. I cannot believe this is happening.
Keep up the good work Sheldon, Canada needs people like you now more than ever.
I've not seen the letter before, however, very well written and noted. What have been the responses from all parties addressed? Probably nothing, as we are just tax paying peons! I'm so very sick of all the political wrong doing. The Coutts Boys STILL in remand, the money not returned, the politicians still lying, the JT ratification of the WHO PANDEMIC agreement this July!!! ETC, ETC sorry to say but if we don't remove all from the Liberal/NDP office and start a new chapter to recover CANADA, we will not WIN, but LOSE.
